24. The Human Capability Reserve

A concrete real-world risk sharpened this idea.

Developers used AI to help implement code.

A simple function was completed quickly.

The next day, similar simple functions were not completed because the developer said AI tokens had run out.

This was a warning sign.

The company had not gained intelligence.

It had lost resilience.

This produced one of the strongest AIFC sentences:

If token outage stops simple routine work, the company has not gained intelligence. It has lost resilience.

The idea of Human Capability Reserve emerged.

A community must preserve enough human capability to:

  • understand critical workflows,
  • review AI output,
  • continue during AI outage,
  • onboard juniors,
  • maintain craft,
  • recover from vendor failure,
  • operate in reduced-AI mode,
  • prevent skill erosion.

One practical idea was:

Keep a defined portion of work, for example 10%, performed without AI across all task types.

This is similar to backup recovery testing.

A company tests whether it can recover from IT outage.

An AI-first company should test whether it can recover from AI outage.
